The
KTMA episodes originally aired on Minneapolis UHF station KTMA-TV, channel
23. Shows were basically ad-libbed and production values were much lower
than in the years to follow. These would not be the best selections for
the casual fan. Also please be aware that these episodes are rare and
graded more leniently. After years of trading, I am confidant that no better
collection can be found. The majority of my masters are only once removed
from the original source tapes.
Special thanks to my friend Chad in the great state of Washington. It's his great video and audio manipulation expertise that constructed the 4/10 and 8/10 KTMA upgrades noted above. He is DA MAN!
Also special thanks go out to my friend MST3K Temple Tom for the 9/11 KTMA upgrades. I transferred his previously uncirculated second generation tapes directly to DVD. They look great!

When I first heard about MSTies transferring their old VHS episodes to DVD I immediately began gathering up the tapes before they were discarded. As somewhat of an MST3K historian I thought I would give them a quick check to see if there was anything that should be preserved. Over the years through eBay, message boards and people contacting me because of my web site I have gathered literally thousands of tapes. Every once in a while an exciting nugget pops up.
These KTMA tapes came to me in the Spring of 2011 and as soon as I began viewing them I realized that they were by far the best quality copies I had seen. I think fans of these old shows will be pleased with the upgrades they can now view.

Episode Quality Grading
Guide
Based on video and audio quality. Not content.
A to A- = Good edits. Excellent picture and sound.
B+ to B- = Good to Very Good. Good edits, good picture and good sound.
Obviously, ratings are subjective. One trader's "B+" could be
another trader's "A+." I have seen well over 1,000 tapes/disks
from every major source and many not so major. My ratings are based on my
experiences.
